It was interesting to hear the evolving perspectives on M2M or Machine-to-Machine at a TelecomHub event on this topic last week.

Global-i is heavily committed via our Consulting Practice & Services in the evolving M2M space. Just as Ericsson's CEO Hans Vestberg we also believe that M2M will move the vendor community into new markets and outstrip growth in its traditional areas. M2M is huge as we also see it! Wireless Carriers and all other Carriers will see a traffic surge along with new application revenues in conjunction with Energy and Utilities Providers, Enterprise companies, Vertical Market companies, Government agencies and individual Consumers.
We see four areas of focus as this technology quickly shakes out in the near term:
1. Smart-Grid, Smart-Metering and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) related to Utilities & Energy Service Provider Side
2. M2M Applications on the Enterprise, Government/Municipal Services and Vertical Markets Side
3. The 2nd area above leading into Mobile Clouds (Private and Hybrid Clouds) for Enterprise and Vertical Market Platforms & Applications Ecosystem including Development, Hosting and Management (including Cloud Billing)
4. M2M Applications on the Consumer Side with high penetration of Home Automation and Related Application areas such as (M2M on Automobiles and more)
At this early stage of M2M development and deployment we encourage Vendors (M2M Infrastructure, Chipset/Sim Cards, Devices, Meters and Platform/Applications) to conduct Application Prototyping and Proof-of-Concept (Customer Trials) deployments.
